COLUMBIA CITY, IN — In its fourth year, our community has supported the annual “Spring Fling” student market. This spring, that familiar event is growing into something even bigger. On Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Columbia City High School will host WCCS Creates: CCHS Entrepreneurial Market & K–12 Art Showcase.
Held in the CCHS Main Commons, WCCS Creates brings together some of the best things our students do. The Entrepreneurial Market will feature student-run businesses and clubs selling artwork, handmade items, baked goods, and original products. Every dollar earned at the booths goes directly back to the students and student groups, giving them a real opportunity to see their ideas pay off.
“Our students put an incredible amount of time and pride into their work,” says Jenn Brower. “Last year alone, students earned more than $3,000 in sales. One culinary student sold out, making close to $400 with her gourmet cupcakes. Experiences like this help students build confidence and see what’s possible.”
New this year, the event also includes a K–12 Art Showcase, with artwork from students across all six WCCS schools. From kindergarten through senior year, the exhibit highlights how creativity grows and develops throughout a student’s time in our district.
Live music will also be part of the experience. Throughout the event, guests can enjoy performances by CCHS student musicians, including the Whitley Street Jazz Band, along with other student vocalists and instrumentalists. The performances add energy to the space and give student musicians another chance to share their talents with the community.
While individual student sales support young entrepreneurs, community sponsorships help support future graduates. Thanks to donations from Andy’s Car Wash, the Columbia City Arts Commission, Orizon Real Estate, Inc., the City of Columbia City, and the Lions Club, the Business, Arts, and Communications (BAC) Scholarship continues to provide financial support to seniors pursuing further education in these fields.
Community members are encouraged to stop by, shop student booths, view the artwork, and enjoy live music. Admission is free. Find us on Facebook and Instagram! @cchsspringfling
