COLUMBIA CITY, IN — August 12, 2026 — In a result that is, quite simply, inconceivable! Columbia City residents have voted, and The Princess Bride has been selected as the featured film for September’s Movie on the Square.
The free outdoor movie will take place Friday, September 4, at 8:30 p.m. on the Whitley County Courthouse Lawn, following Columbia City Connect’s September First Fridays celebration.
Moviegoers are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs, settle in under the stars and enjoy the beloved 1987 adventure-comedy featuring romance, pirates, sword fights and plenty of memorable lines.
“We wanted to let the community choose the movie, and The Princess Bride was the clear winner,” said Columbia City Connect Executive Director Niki Keister. “It’s the perfect kind of movie for an outdoor community night, fun, nostalgic and something the whole family can enjoy together.”
The evening will begin with First Fridays: Game On!, taking place throughout downtown from 6–9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy the First Fridays activities, explore downtown businesses, grab dinner or a treat, and then make their way to the Courthouse Lawn for the movie.
Movie on the Square is presented by Mayor Ryan L. Daniel and the City of Columbia City, in partnership with Columbia City Connect.
