COLUMBIA CITY, IN — The Whitley County Historical Museum is inviting local artists of all ages to participate in a one-of-a-kind creative opportunity to honor the county’s heritage as part of the US 250 celebrations.
This summer, the museum will launch a special art initiative featuring historic slate tiles salvaged from the roof of the Vice President Thomas Riley Marshall Home. These tiles—no longer fit for roofing—will be transformed into permanent works of art, telling the story of Whitley County through the eyes of its artists.
Selected artworks will be included in the museum’s Art @The Museum exhibit, running August through September 2025, and will become a lasting part of the museum’s collection.
“This is a rare chance to blend history and art in a meaningful way,” said Jennifer Zartman Romano, museum curator. “These slates are more than materials—they’re part of our story. We’re excited to see how local artists bring them to life.”

- Eligibility: Open to all local artists (all ages welcome)
