It’s a community rooted in its agricultural heritage\, strengthened by its commercial and residential development\, and proud of its hometown heroes. \nIn honor of those servicemen and servicewomen throughout nation\, We present the 16th Annual Veterans Marathon\, Half-Marathon and Heroes 5K on November 2nd\, 2024. Located in Northeast Indiana. We can promise that flags will be waving at the start\, a gently rolling countryside course\, and a race experience you will always remember. The Veterans Marathon will be honoring the Coast Guard for its 16th running of the race\, the Heroes 5k will be honoring the Whitley County 911 Communications for 2024. The Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5582 out of Columbia City\, Indiana will be the recipient of 50% of the Veterans Marathon profits\, 25% will be donated to the Columbia City 911 Communications. \nStart time:\n8:00 am Eastern Standard Time for the Marathon\n8:00 am Eastern Standard Time for the Half-Marathon\n8:15 am Eastern Standard Time for the Heroes 5k \nEnd time:\nThe half-marathon course closes at 2:00 pm\, the full marathon course closes at 2:00 pm \nMarathon ( 2 Loops)  USATF Certification #:IN17015TDK.\nHalf Marathon USATF Certification #:IN17014TDK. \nHeroes 5k course will close by 9:30 am \nThe Heroes 5k has a 3 person team challenge where the total time of a team is added together to compete with other teams for a unique “Hero-based” award. \nPost-Race:\nAll post race festivities will take place on the courthouse lawn in and around the event tent. \nHot Soup donated by Columbia City’s Elks Lodge # 1417 and the Local VFW post 5582\, will be available to all participants free of charge post race as well as other refreshments.\nSoups available: Chicken Noodle\, Vegetarian Vegetable\, Chili \nUnique Awards that are made right here in Indiana using limestone mined from Bloomington\, Indiana will be up for grabs to the Top 2 in each division. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our first Quilting Class Series! Pick from one or all three of these beginner classes. Each class will be $25 or register for all three for $70. All classes will require you to pre-register at least 3 days before event. Please read carefully below for class information and supplies you will need to bring with you. \n#1. Quilting Basics \nTuesday\, October 29th\, 6-8pm \nSupplies to bring: \n-Cutting mat \n-Clear acrylic ruler \n-Rotary cutter \n-Sewing machine with a 1⁄4” foot \n-Pins or clips \n-1-2 fat quarters or 1 yard fabric of 2 different fabrics of your choice with a contrasting thread color to practice cutting and a 1⁄4” Seam allowance \n*iron/wool mat-Not necessary\, feel free to bring if you want \n*Choose fabric you love. This will become a mat for either your sewing machine\, end table or you may want to make a set of placemats later. \nWe will learn: \n-Cutting fabric \n-How to use a ruler and cutting mat for accurate cuts \n-1⁄4” Seam \n-The majority of quilt patterns ask for 1⁄4” seam allowance. \n-Pressing \n-The importance of pressing vs ironing \n#2. Basting a quilt & Machine Quilting \nTuesday\, November 19th\, 6-8pm \nSupplies to bring: \n-Cutting mat \n-Clear acrylic ruler \n-Rotary cutter \n-Sewing machine with a 1⁄4” foot\, any accessories to your machine for quilting \n-Marking tool(s) \n-Pins or clips \n-Project piece from the 1st class \n-Batting and backing fabric for the project. At least 2-4” larger than the project \n-Basting spray or safety pins \n*iron/wool mat-Not necessary\, feel free to bring if you want \nWe will baste together the project showing basting spray and safety pins. I use spray the most. \nMachine quilting can be done on any domestic sewing machine. Many machines come with a metal guide for quilting straight lines. Also\, you can measure and mark lines with a tool or different types of pens that disappear or iron away. \nI will share a website I use to calculate how much binding you will need. Then you will have that information before the next class-Binding! \n#3. DESCRIPTION:Experience the holiday magic at Columbia City Connect’s Walk of Trees\, a beloved community tradition featuring beautifully decorated trees\, festive events\, and a chance to win your favorite tree this season! \nWith thousands of attendees\, Columbia City Connect’s Walk of Trees continues to grow and has become a holiday tradition for many community members and families. \nThis holiday season\, the lobby of the beautifully renovated Clugston on the Square will be filled with decorated trees in an array of sizes and themes. \nAttendees are encouraged to purchase tickets and vote for their favorite trees. Tickets are drawn for the trees on the final day\, and the winner takes home the fully decorated tree! \nThis year’s Walk of Trees will be held in conjunction with several downtown events\, including: \nNov 29 – Whitley County Lighted Parade & Santa’s House \nNov 30 – Shop Small Saturday \nDec 6 – Merry Museum Christmas \nDec 6 & 7 – Whitley County Christmas at the Courthouse \nDec 7 – Santa’s House
