Columbia City Connect, in partnership with 46 Graphics, is now accepting artist submissions for the 2025 Steamroller Party, a feature event of First Fridays set to take place on Friday, September 5th. This one-of-a-kind event transforms the streets into a working print studio, where artists carve large-scale woodblocks and print them using a real steamroller in front of a live audience. The Steamroller Party is a free, family-friendly celebration of creativity, craftsmanship and community.

Columbia City Connect is seeking bold, impactful designs from artists and artist teams. While there is no strict theme, all artwork must be appropriate for public display. Artists working in printmaking, illustration, design and related disciplines are encouraged to apply. No prior public art experience is required.

Selected artists will receive a large-format woodblock (approximately 3’x3’–3’x4’), access to carving tools or a materials stipend, and support from event organizers throughout the process. Artists also retain their carved block and receive one finished print. Artists will also be provided space to display or sell their work during the event.

Submissions are due by Saturday, July 19th. Interested artists should email their submission materials to Niki Keister at [email protected] with the subject line “Steamroller Party Artist Submission.” Submissions must include contact information, a brief artist statement or bio, a concept sketch (or work samples) and an optional link to a portfolio or website. Artists may submit up to three concepts. A flyer with full details and requirements is available upon request.
