The City of Columbia City welcomed families and community members to its Family SafetyFest on Saturday, September 27th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM along Van Buren Street in downtown Columbia City. The free event combined education, hands-on activities, and fun, all focused on keeping families safe.

The morning featured a wide variety of interactive demonstrations and safety programs, including:
- Kasey the Fire Dog teaching fire safety
- “Paint the Plow” with the Street Department
- Electrical safety demonstrations with Northeastern REMC
- Live Jaws of Life demonstration by the Fire Department
- Bike Rodeo for kids, with 150 free bike helmets provided by the Indiana Department of Transportation: Northeast
- Car seat checks and free car seats from the Whitley County Health Department for qualifying families
- Drone demonstrations and CPR training with local SROs and Lutheran Health
- Firefighter obstacle course, 4H Shooting Trailer, K-9 demonstration, and much more
Community members also enjoyed giveaways, including free smoke detectors from Koorsen, a bicycle drawing courtesy of Columbia City Walmart, and 200 free hot dogs from Columbia City Kroger. Attendees were encouraged to explore the downtown Farmer’s Market during the event as well.
