Columbia City, IN (May 3, 2024) – May First Friday, hosted by Columbia City Connect, soared
to new heights of success, captivating attendees with adrenaline-pumping BMX stunts, soulful
live music, a bustling array of local vendors, and a giveaway of 150 helmets to kids. The event,
held on Friday, May 3, showcased the vibrant energy and creativity of our community, drawing
in a record-breaking crowd of participants and spectators.
Headlining the evening’s entertainment was the electrifying performance by the Wonder Wheels
BMX Stunt team, whose gravity-defying maneuvers had spectators holding their breath. From
jaw-dropping aerial tricks to awe-inspiring stunts, the Wonder Wheels team delivered a show
stopping performance that had the crowd cheering for more.
Adding to the festivities was the soulful sounds of Evan Lee & Co., whose captivating musical
performance provided the perfect soundtrack for the evening. Their dynamic funk/neosoul kept
the crowd grooving throughout the night, further enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of First
Friday.
In addition to the thrilling entertainment and bustling downtown streets, First Friday also made a
meaningful impact by giving away 150 helmets to kids in attendance. This initiative aimed to
promote bike safety and ensure that children in our community have the necessary protection
while enjoying outdoor activities.
“What a rad night it was. This was by far my favorite one so far. The kids had so much fun, it
was great to be able to give out 150 free helmets. Columbia City showed out tonight and I’m so
happy with how it went. Thank you all, see you all in June!” said Mike Thomas, First Friday
Team member.
“We are thrilled with the overwhelming success of May First Friday,” said Niki Keister, Executive
Director at Columbia City Connect. “The combination of thrilling BMX stunts, live music, and
local vendors created a truly unforgettable experience for our community. We are grateful to
everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success.”
First Friday continues to serve as a cornerstone event in our community, bringing together
residents, businesses, and nonprofits to celebrate our shared culture and downtown. Plans are
already underway for June First Friday: Wheels of Whitley County Car Show, June 7 from 6
9pm and Columbia City Connect looks forward to continuing to showcase the best of our
community’s talent and spirit.
